Day 01: Paro – Jele Dzong

Distance: 10 km | Time: 4–5 hours | Camp Alt: 3,480m

Your trek begins at the National Museum. You’ll climb gradually through apple orchards and ancient pine forests. As you reach the ridge, you’ll find Jele Dzong, a historic fortress-monastery. If the weather is clear, you’ll get your first breathtaking view of Mt. Jomolhari (7,314m).
Day 02: Jele Dzong – Jangchulakha

Distance: 10 km | Time: 4 hours | Camp Alt: 3,780m

Hike through thick alpine forests and vibrant rhododendrons. This stretch is famous for sightings of the colorful Monal Pheasant. You’ll spend the night at a high-altitude yak pasture, where you can meet local herders and enjoy a 360-degree view of the Himalayan range.
Day 03: Jangchulakha – Jimilang Tsho Lake

The trail follows a high ridge with spectacular views of both the Paro and Thimphu valleys. You’ll descend steeply to reach Jimilang Tsho ("Sand Ox Lake"). This sacred lake is famous for its giant trout and the legend of a spiritual bull that protects the waters.
Day 04: Jimilang Tsho – Simkotra Tsho

Distance: 11 km | Time: 4 hours | Camp Alt: 4,110m

Walk through dwarf rhododendron gardens and bypass the smaller Janetsho Lake. You are now in the heart of the high wilderness. Your camp at Simkotra Tsho offers one of the most serene and isolated settings of the entire trip.
Day 05: Simkotra Tsho – Phajoding – Thimphu

Distance: 14 km | Time: 7 hours | Elevation: Phume La Pass (4,210m)

The final big push! You’ll climb to the Phume La Pass, draped in prayer flags. From here, you can see Mt. Gangkhar Puensum, the world’s highest unclimbed peak. You then descend past the Phajoding Monastery and finish your journey through blue pine forests, arriving at the road head above Thimphu city.
