9 Days | 8 Nights | High-Altitude Adventure

Day 01: Arrival in Paro (2,280m)

Welcome to the Land of the Thunder Dragon. After meeting your guide, visit the Paro Rinpung Dzong and the National Museum. Spend the evening strolling through Paro town to begin your acclimatization.

Day 02: The Tiger’s Nest Acclimatization Hike

Before heading into the high wilderness, take the legendary hike to Taktsang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest). Perched 900m above the valley, this 4-5 hour hike is the perfect "warm-up" for your lungs before the trek begins.

Day 03: Paro – Shana (Start of Trek)

  • Distance: 14 km | Time: 5–6 hours | Alt: 2,870m Your adventure starts at the ruins of Drugyal Dzong. Follow the Pa Chhu (Paro River) through a valley of rice paddies and apple orchards, entering the Jigme Dorji National Park to reach your first camp at Shana.

Day 04: Shana – Soi Thangthangkha

  • Distance: 22 km | Time: 7–8 hours | Alt: 3,750m A long but rewarding day. The trail winds through deep forests of oak, spruce, and rhododendron. As you emerge from the tree line, look ahead—if the weather is clear, you’ll get your first dramatic view of Mt. Jomolhari (7,314m).

Day 05: Soi Thangthangkha – Jangothang (Base Camp)

  • Distance: 19 km | Time: 5–6 hours | Alt: 4,050m Today you enter "Yak Country." Pass through small settlements of yak herders and watch for Himalayan Blue Sheep on the rocky slopes. You will arrive at Jangothang, one of the most beautiful campsites in the world, situated directly beneath the massive face of Jomolhari.

Day 06: Rest & Exploration at Base Camp

Spend the day at Jangothang to allow your body to adjust to the altitude.

  • Optional Adventure: Hike up to the Tsophu Lakes (4,380m) for a stunning mirror reflection of the peaks, or trek toward the Jomolhari Glacier.

Day 07: Jangothang – Soi Yaktsa (The High Pass)

  • Distance: 16 km | Time: 7–8 hours | Alt: 3,800m via Bhonte La (4,890m) The most challenging and scenic day. Cross the Bhonte La Pass, the highest point of the trek. You’ll be rewarded with panoramic views of Jichu Drake and the Tibetan border before descending into the hidden Soi Yaktsa valley.

Day 08: Soi Yaktsa – Thombu Shong – Shana

  • Distance: 18 km | Time: 7 hours | Alt: 2,870m Cross the Thombu La Pass (4,550m) and begin a long, scenic descent back toward the Paro valley. You’ll pass through nomadic pastures and descend through forests of blue pine to reach your final campsite.

Day 09: Shana – Paro & Departure

A short walk back to the road head where your transport awaits. Return to Paro for a farewell dinner and a traditional hot stone bath—the perfect remedy for tired trekking legs.
