The Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival & The "Postmaster" Experience

Your family’s adventure begins as you touch down in the beautiful Paro Valley. Your personal Sonith Travels guide will meet you and lead the way to Thimphu, the kingdom's vibrant capital. After a quick refreshment, we head straight to the Bhutan Post Office Headquarters.

  • The Highlight: Here, your family can have your portrait taken and printed onto real, legal postage stamps. Kids find it hilarious to see their own faces on official government stamps, which you can then use to mail postcards to grandparents or friends from the world’s most remote kingdom!

Night: Thimphu

Day 2: The Gateway to the East

We start the day with a drive to Punakha, ascending the Dochula Pass (3,050m). While you enjoy tea overlooking the 108 memorial chortens and the snow-capped peaks, the children can explore the open ridges. Upon reaching the warm, sub-tropical Punakha valley, we take a gentle walk through the paddy fields to Chimi Lhakhang. Known as the "Temple of Fertility," it is dedicated to the Divine Madman and is filled with colorful, fascinating local legends that captivate visitors of all ages.

Night: Punakha

Day 3: Fortresses & Suspension Bridges

Today we visit the majestic Punakha Dzong, located at the scenic confluence of the "Father" and "Mother" rivers. This fortress is an architectural playground for the imagination. After exploring its grand courtyards, we head to the Punakha Suspension Bridge—one of the longest in the country. Walking across the swaying bridge over the rushing Pho Chhu river is a safe, thrilling highlight for children before we begin our scenic drive back to Paro.

Night: Paro

Day 4: The Icon – Hike to the Tiger’s Nest

No trip to Bhutan is complete without visiting Taktsang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest). We have tailored this experience for families: we can arrange for ponies to carry younger children halfway up the mountain to the cafeteria viewpoint. The hike through the ancient pine forests is a great bonding experience, ending with the sight of the monastery clinging dramatically to a cliff 900m above the valley. We celebrate your final evening with a traditional farmhouse dinner and a relaxing hot stone bath.

Night: Paro

Day 5: Farewell from the Kingdom

After a final breakfast and some last-minute souvenir shopping in Paro town, your guide will accompany you to the airport for your flight home, carrying with you your custom stamps and a lifetime of family memories.
