Your family will journey into the heart of the Black-Necked Crane's winter habitat, staying in the high-altitude Phobjikha Valley. Day 1: Arrive at Paro – Thimphu

 

Your personal guide will receive you at Paro International Airport. After refreshments, we take a 1.5-hour drive to Thimphu, the capital city. Your first stop is the Bhutan Post Office Headquarters, where you can have your family photo turned into real, legal postage stamps. Later, visit the Memorial Chorten, a landmark of peace and prosperity in the heart of the city.

Day 2: Thimphu Sightseeing

 

Spend a full day exploring the landmarks of the capital. Visit the National Library, the Folk Heritage Museum, and the National Institute of Zorig Chusum, where students train in Bhutan's 13 traditional arts. In the evening, visit the majestic Trashichho Dzong, which houses the throne room of His Majesty the King, before exploring the local town shops.

Day 3: Thimphu – Punakha

 

An early start takes you toward Punakha, with a stopover at Dochula Pass (3,050m). Enjoy the breathtaking 360-degree view of the Himalayan range. Upon reaching Punakha, take a leisurely walk through the paddy fields to visit Chimi Lhakhang, the "Temple of Fertility." Later, visit the Punakha Dzong, an architectural masterpiece sitting at the confluence of two rivers. Night halt: Punakha

Day 4: Punakha – Phobjikha Valley

 

Drive toward the Black Mountain range to reach the bowl-shaped glacial valley of Phobjikha, arguably the most beautiful valley in Bhutan. This conservation area is the winter home to the migrating black-necked cranes. After checking in, visit the Crane Observation Centre to learn about these "Heavenly Birds." In the evening, we can arrange an authentic Farmhouse stay for your family to experience traditional village life. Night halt: Phobjikha

Day 5: The Morning Call of the Cranes

 

Wake up early to catch a glimpse of the cranes as they begin their day in the misty wetlands. Visit the 17th-century Gangtey Monastery, which overlooks the entire valley. Afterward, take a nature hike through the Gangtey Nature Trail, walking through pine forests and crane roosting grounds. Later in the afternoon, begin the scenic drive back toward the historic town of Paro.

Day 6: The Legend of Taktsang (Tiger’s Nest)

 

Today, you will trek up the mountain to view the enchanting Taktsang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest), which clings dramatically to a cliff 900m above the valley floor. For families with children, we can arrange for ponies to assist with the first half of the climb. In the evening, celebrate your final night with a traditional Hot Stone Bath to relax after the hike. Your guide will see you off at the Paro International Airport for your onward journey.
